JOB OPPORTUNITIES

ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNER

Studio Wainui is strengthening our Waikato presence and we’re looking for an experienced Environmental Planner to join either our Hamilton or Raglan based team.

This is a rare opportunity to be part of a small, trusted, Waikato-focused practice that blends environmental planning and engineering — with the scope to influence how we deliver meaningful, low-impact projects across the region.

We’re looking for someone who understands the Waikato context and already has strong relationships in the region — with councils, iwi, consultants or local clients — and who values the collaborative, people-first way the Waikato works.

What You’ll Do

You’ll play a role across a range of land development, infrastructure and environmental projects, including:

  • Preparing and reviewing resource consent applications
  • Assessing environmental effects and providing planning advice
  • Working closely with councils, iwi, clients and project partners
  • Managing projects from early investigation through to delivery
  • Supporting civil engineering colleagues with integrated planning input
  • Preferably 3-5 years' experience in planning or similar environmental related regulatory role with strong understanding of the RMA.
  • Providing internal guidance, quality oversight and mentoring where needed

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • An experienced Environmental Planner (ideally 3+ years)
  • Confident navigating the RMA, regional/district plans, and consenting pathways
  • Authentic, knowledgeable, and highly competent in client-facing work
  • Comfortable working independently but collaborative at heart
  • Passionate about sustainable, low-impact development and good environmental outcomes
  • Someone with strong communication skills and a reputation for delivering quality

You’ll enjoy the blend of autonomy, trust and meaningful project work — alongside a grounded, values-led team.

civil / environmental engineer

Studio Wainui is expanding. With strong roots in Raglan and a reputation for thoughtful, sustainable design, we’re growing our presence into Hamilton — and we’re looking for an experienced Civil or Environmental Engineer to help lead this next chapter.

This is a rare chance to be part of a small, trusted, Waikato-based team, and to play a key role in establishing our Hamilton studio from the ground up.

We’re looking for someone who wants to be part of shaping how this studio grows — bringing strong technical leadership, good judgement, and the kind of energy that helps create a great team environment.

What You’ll Do

You’ll play a senior role across a range of civil engineering and land development projects, including:

  • Technical design, modelling and documentation
  • Managing projects from concept through to construction
  • Working closely with clients, councils and partners
  • Collaborating with our environmental planning team
  • Highly competent with AutoCAD and or Civil 3D design software
  • Providing guidance, quality oversight and mentoring where needed
  • Helping shape the culture and capability of our new Hamilton base

Who You Are

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A highly skilled civil or environmental engineer with at least 5–10+ years of experience
  • Knowledgeable, authentic, and respected in the industry
  • Confident working independently, but collaborative at heart
  • Passionate about sustainable, low-impact design
  • Committed to strong, local relationships and doing things the right way
  • Someone with a strong work ethic and a reputation for delivering quality

You'll thrive here if you enjoy a balanced mix of autonomy, trust, and hands-on involvement — especially in the early stages of growing a new location.
