Hayden founded Studio Wainui in 2014 with a vision of creating a niche civil and environmental consultancy, providing innovative and environmentally sustainable solutions to both the public and private sectors. Being located in Raglan is a great opportunity for our team to balance family time, enjoy the great surf and also get projects out the door. Hayden has over 20 years of experience in civil, stormwater and land development related projects within professional engineering consultancies. He has been responsible for construction, investigation, analysis, design, planning and project management of private development and infrastructure projects.

With a background in structural engineering, Hayley brings a breadth of knowledge of the construction industry to the team. Hayley takes a special interest in project managing construction at the local school and local development projects.

Andrew is a licensed Cadastral Surveyor with over 20 years’ experience in land development. He has had extensive involvement in land development projects throughout the Waikato Region spanning from small to large residential developments, rural and rural residential developments, road upgrades, state highway projects and windfarms. His commitment and adeptness contribute significantly to the success of these projects. Andrews comprehensive knowledge and practical skills make him a valuable asset in the intricate landscape of land development sector. 

Richard has around 24 years’ experience in the environmental planning field working with central government departments, district councils, regional councils and for the past 14 years in the private consulting sector. He has been responsible for both processing, applying for and undertaking compliance monitoring on numerous large-scale complex resource consent projects requiring a high level of technical expertise including state highway projects and windfarms. Richard's key strengths are his expert knowledge of best practice environmental management requirements for land development projects and his skills in consultation and engagement.

Andrew has over 18 years’ experience in environmental science and resource management planning, working with regional councils and the Environment Protection Authority Victoria. He has been responsible for processing complex resource consent applications, compliance monitoring, and providing technical advice on challenging regulatory matters including National Environmental Standards for Freshwater projects. Andrew’s key strengths are his ability to combine scientific expertise with practical planning solutions and his technical skills in environmental assessment and regulatory analysis.

Anna has worked in a range of environmental science and management roles over the last 10+ years here in New Zealand as well as in Australia. Most recently, Anna has been working with the Waipa community on soil conservation projects and engaging farmers in waterway restoration works.

Chris is a Civil Engineer and Project Manager with 12 years of experience project managing Civil Engineering projects in 3-waters Roading and Structures as well as Design, Consenting and development of 2-10 lot subdivisions. He is passionate about delivering projects to program and budget.

Sam is a Chartered Professional Civil Engineer with over 9 years of international experience in multidisciplinary land development, commercial and streetscape projects, offering expertise across all project phases, from concept design to construction monitoring, project management, and stakeholder coordination.

Marta is a Civil and Environmental Engineer with 9 years of New Zealand experience. She is focused on Stormwater Management and her main experience is in hydrology and hydraulic modelling and stormwater management and drainage design. She has worked on projects related to land development, roading, catchment analysis and flood hazard mapping.

Rodrigo is a Civil Engineer with 10 years of experience, including seven years working on projects in New Zealand. He specialises in hydraulic modelling, with a strong focus on flood assessments for open channels, urban drainage systems, and integrated catchment management. His previous work includes hazard analysis and economic damage assessments, as well as the development of flood mitigation options using both 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling techniques.

Amole is a Civil & Land Development Engineer with over four years of experience in civil engineering, who joined the Studio Wainui team in early 2024. His background spans structural, geotechnical, and land development engineering, with a focus on creating resilient, nature-integrated urban communities. Amole is driven by a passion for sustainable infrastructure and future-proof design that supports thriving, connected environments.

Caleb joins the studio with a range of work experience in different industries. Caleb's background in architectural design and draughting offers a wealth of knowledge to support the Civil and Land Development Team.

Andrew is a draughtsman with a background as a Licensed Structural Engineer in Santa Fe, New Mexico, bringing a passion for environmental building solutions and 20 years of experience in alternative material building design and detailing.

Kate’s background is in Water Engineering. She brings to Studio Wainui the technical assessment of water, wastewater and stormwater engineering issues. The specialist input Kate provides includes water impact assessments, engineering design, wastewater and stormwater capacity assessments, on-site wastewater treatment and disposal, stormwater mitigation design and flood assessment reports.

Mel brings a wealth of experience in finance and administration to Studio Wainui. She spent a decade in the United States with her family, working in the entertainment industry as both a Lighting Director and Finance Manager. Before that, she held finance and admin roles across the public sector, not-for-profit organisations, and early childhood education. From supporting musicians to supporting engineering teams, Mel believes just about anything can be handled with a solid spreadsheet and a good coffee.
